 Remembering Mac Wiseman

Mac Wiseman, Legendary Bluegrass Crooner From The Valley, Dead At 93

Mac Wiseman 96 Bluegrass singer Mac Wiseman, has died at 93. Wiseman was born in Crimora, in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, on May 23, 1925. He contracted polio at a young age, which led him to spend a lot of time listening to old records as a child.

Of the many accomplishments from Wiseman’s career, two best represent his longevity and influence. He was the final surviving member of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs’ original Foggy Mountain Boys. That fact alone makes him a key figure in the commercial and musical development of 1940s bluegrass. He was also the last living co-founder of the Country Music Association (CMA). Wiseman helped form the original CMA board in 1958 to fend off the threat that rock & roll posed to country music’s popularity. He served as the organization’s first secretary during a key time in Nashville’s economic and social development.

Decades later, he also co-founded the International Bluegrass Music Association.

He was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor in 1993 and into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2014. His last album came out two years ago when he was 91, "I Sang The Song (Life Of The Voice With A Heart)."

It's sad that mac is gone. He represented the end of an era.

Maxine Brown 130X204 96

Maxine Brown Russell, inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2015 as part of the sibling trio The Browns, died in Little Rock, Arkansas, on January 21st, from complications of heart and kidney disease. She was 87 years old and was in hospice care surrounded by family when she passed away.

Maxine Brown was born into her musical family on April 27, 1931, in Campti, Louisiana. She performed with siblings Jim Ed and Bonnie Brown as The Browns. The siblings' first chart single single "Here Today and Gone Tomorrow" peaked at #7 in 1955, and in 1956, their recording of "I Take the Chance" hit #2 on the country charts. However, The Browns were most known for their sweet harmonies on “The Three Bells,” which was released in 1959. Produced by Chet Atkins, "The Three Bells" spent 10 weeks atop the country charts and four weeks on the pop charts.

The Browns continued to find crossover success with songs including “The Old Lamplighter" and “Scarlet Ribbons.” Maxine's first success as a songwriter came with The Browns' release of "Looking Back To See." In 1963, The Browns were invited to join the Grand Ole Opry. Maxine Brown Obituary

official United States public holiday, we observe annually on November 11, that honors military veterans; that is, persons who served in the United States Armed Forces. This day is the anniversary of the signing of the armistice, which ended the World War I hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany in 1918. Our Veterans are thanked for their service to the United States on Veterans Day. Veterans are very special people who have spent part of their lives, from a few months to many years, serving our country in the military. This is very important because it means that without veterans, we would not have the freedoms we often so carelessly enjoy. May God Bless our Veterans!

Marteka And William Get A Well Deserved Compliment            From Geoff Stelling, The Respected Banjo Maker.

Marteka and William sent a copy of their new CD “Pure” Bluegrass to Geoff Stelling, the respected banjo maker to get his expert opinion on the CD before we sent the master copy off to get them made. Here was his response!
"William's singing and rhythm is spot on, sounding more and more like Lester. Corrina is awesome as usual. You did a great job of recording and mixing. Marteka's playing and her banjo sound as good or better than Earl on all the recordings I have of Flatt and Scruggs, and I have a lot of them. No one on the planet can top what Marteka is doing. And the engineering skills are top notch, too."
